Marek’s Disease Testing
Species supported: Chickens, turkeys, quail, pheasants, peafowl, guinea fowl

Marek’s Disease is a highly contagious herpesvirus infection that primarily affects young gallinaceous birds. It causes tumors in nerves and organs, paralysis, immunosuppression, and sudden death. Birds may appear healthy while actively shedding the virus, making early detection critical in breeding and flock management.
What it detects:
Presence of Gallid alphaherpesvirus 2 (MDV)
Useful for identifying active infection or carrier status
Sample Types Accepted:
Feather- entire feather must be included- base of feather where feather enters skin MUST be intact and included.
Results typically within 48 business hours of sample arrival
Recommended for:Birds showing signs of paralysis, weight loss, or sudden death
Breeder flocks, vaccinated chicks, or pre-show testing
Monitoring possible vaccine breakthrough in high-risk flocks
Not valid for pigeons, doves, ducks, or waterfowl — these species do not carry or develop Marek’s Disease.
