Mycobacterium Disease Testing
 
Broad panel testing- will give a "yes" positive or "no" negative result for the presence of the bacterium but will not identify which strain is present. 
If you need to screen for a specific strain once a positive result is identified, please contact us.

Sample types accepted:
Cloacal swab (overnight shipping recommended)
Feces (overnight shipping recommended for fresh sample, dried sample is fine to ship at standard mail speed)
Dried blood

This advanced PCR test screens for avian mycobacteriosis, a chronic bacterial disease that causes wasting, diarrhea, and organ enlargement in birds.

Positive results confirm active infection or carrier status 
 
Recommended for:
-Birds with chronic weight loss 
-Diarrhea or wasting
-Flock or aviary screening (especially in psittacines, doves, pigeons, and poultry)
-Pre-purchase exams or new rescue intake
 
Zoonotic risk note: While rare, M. avium and M. genavense can affect immunocompromised humans. Positive results should be discussed with your veterinarian, and appropriate biosecurity measures taken.

This kit includes everything you need to submit a dried blood or fecal sample to us for testing.

By submitting a sample for disease testing, you agree to these terms in their entirety.
Additionally, any sample submitted for disease testing that is not properly packaged/contained/identified will NOT be tested and no refunds or credits will be issued.  It is imperative, dute to the potential for transmission, that you follow packaging guidelines exactly.
