Psittacosis, also known as parrot fever, is a disease caused by the bacterium Chlamydia psittaci and can be carried by a variety of bird species. While psittacine birds (parrots, parakeets, cockatiels, etc.) are most commonly associated with the disease, other birds like pigeons, doves, and even poultry such as turkeys and ducks can also carry the bacteria. 

This DNA test detects the presence of Chlamydia psittaci, the bacteria that causes psittacosis — a potentially serious respiratory and systemic infection that can affect both birds and humans (zoonotic).

What it detects: Active or recent Chlamydia psittaci infection Can be used for symptomatic birds, flock screening, or pre-sale health verification  

Ideal for:
-Birds with signs of lethargy, respiratory distress, diarrhea, or sudden weight loss
-Pre-purchase or pre-breeding screening Aviaries, rescues, or pet stores with flock exposure concerns

Choanal or cloacal swabs (fresh or dried)
Fresh feces (sealed, same-day shipping recommended)  
Fresh Blood (sealed, same day shipping recommended)
